About this event
The Mogollon Monster 100 is a rugged, challenging trail race about 90 minutes northeast of Phoenix, just outside the small town of Pine, Arizona. The 100 Mile runs point to point from Two-Sixty Trailhead west along the Mogollon Rim, climbing the Rim six separate times on 30 to 45% grades, with about 15,900 feet of gain between 5,200 and 8,000 feet. The Rim rises some 2,000 feet for 200 miles across Arizona, and the course changes from high Sonoran desert to ponderosa forest as it climbs, on the Highline, Myrtle, Promontory and Cabin Loop trails.
The 100 Mile starts Saturday at 6:00 AM with a 38 hour limit. The 42K starts Sunday at 7:00 AM at Pine Trailhead with a 12 hour limit, climbing the Rim on the Donahue Trail and finishing on the last miles of the 100 Mile course. Both finish at the Town Ramada at the Pine Community Center. Shuttles run from the Old Pine Parking Lot to both starts, and you can camp in the parking area over the weekend.
This is an extremely hard, remote and self sufficient race. 100 Mile entrants need a 50 mile or longer finish before race day and 8 hours of trail work or volunteer service. The 100 Mile has drop bags at Fish Hatchery, Buck Springs and Geronimo, with crews and pacers only in the marked zones. The 42K has no crews, pacers or drop bags.
